Which pier is the safest and nicest to go to in So Cal?

Going to So. Cal for our honeymoon and need some ideas on things to do and safe places to go. We know we want to vist a pier and go to Universal but what else is there to do? Also need some suggestions for a nice hotel.

ive never really thot of peirs as being unsafe, until i watched a storm knock down the one in h.b. Anyhow, its been rebuit for years and sits in the middle of orange county(near disneyland, hollywood, l.a., big bear mountain, water parks, knott's berry farm,etc.etc.) there are also about five more nice(safe) peirs within a 1/2 hour drive(newport beach, san clemente, aliso peir...) and some pretty dramatic coastline as well. h.b. and laguna beach are both perfect for milling around on the streets and checking out the local color!
