The Relocating Poster

Okay...I m going to start with the Relocating poster, rather a tame topic to begin with. Found within every state forum, the Relocating poster can be very specific or can be on the opposite spectrum of generalities. It could range from "I am moving to so-and-so for a job so where is the best place to live" to "I am looking for a 3200 sq ft in the XXX community and can afford up to $500K, what can I get for it" type of posts. The first one is answered by only the most patient of old-timers in that forum or the very new members still eager to respond to one of the most repeated questions in the state forums.
Very similar to the Relocating poster is the Remorseful After the Move poster. They come in all kinds! Some humbly acknowledge that they were inadequate in doing the homework and are actively working to get out. Others blame one thing or another for their decision. The reasons run the gamut from too long of a drive to the nearest beach, not cosmopolitan as they thought, level of crime, absence of entertainment, no culture, not enough diversity, etc. etc. These are great for the entertainment value! My CD friends and I refer to these as the "Is [insert town here] For Me?". This becomes a bash fest and the writing's on the wall...it inevitably ends up being closed. Happy Happy Joy Joy!

What I don't understand most of all are the "I don't know where I really want to live" posters. These are those who have left a place and continue to bash it. This truly annoys the locals in the place the poster has left. I just don't get this. If you don't like the place, you got out, so what's the problem?
Okay...relo posters...it's amazing how much info is already out there on what you are looking for. Do a Search on the Forum or the Thread, and voila!!!! We wish you success in your relo, so we hope you do your homework and don't turn into the "Remorseful Poster" (see above).
Pretty tame as an opener, if I might say so myself...

Hey, Miss Bibit!
Well, your post really does cut to the core of why CD exists!!! And it also points out how incredible it is to find that people are willing to move here w/o really doing their research. How the heck can I tell someone if "XX is really for me?" I am always so surprised to see those posts, but they show up daily!!!!
My favorite is . . . when someone just decides to move to a new location, sight unseen and without a job! And they post "how hard will it be to get a job there?" No info on their field, experience, education . . . and even if they do post all that, we don't know if the person interviews well - how can we tell someone if they will find a job??? Dear me.
I have only moved b/c of career changes . . . and once, for love!!! So, I can't imagine moving some place, without first securing employment!!Posted 06-26-2008 at 09:27 AM by anifani821

I like the ones who come on and say this town or city just "s*cks" or "it's a ghetto", etc. Nothing labeling an entire community by a sparselt worded cutdown. Great blog, Bibit. Keep it up!Posted 06-27-2008 at 10:01 PM by Stripes17

Hey bibit, glad I'm not the only one agitated over the foolishness. I research C-D for information about places without even thinking of paying attention the the threads that are doing the bashing. I keep a mapping page up, a weather site up, and C-D. I check the C-D reported crime stats, then go to the weather averages, etc. C-D posts so much data that some of the posts are just plain out stupid. After all I flunked mind reading 1101 back in college.
What else can you call them if not, well better not say that in public. Another pet peeve is that people often want to live on the beach with a great paying job and pay taxes like they lived in a shack. And then they want low insurance against hurricane damage. Why should people in say Ocala pay the same rate as those in Miami? I'd better go take a nap before I really spout off.
I'm behind you 1000% on this one kid.Posted 07-16-2008 at 01:56 PM by Nomadicus
