Jersey

Posted 11-08-2008 at 10:37 PM by Gitana1217
Planning on moving to Jersey some time in 2009. I have my bachelor's now, possibly thinking of Rutgers in Newark. I am looking at the towns of Harrison and Kearney to move to. I am a bit familiar with the area. If anyone can offer me some advice, I would appreciate it.

Harrison is walking distance from Rutgers Newark, NJPAC, Newark Broad Street NJ Transit, light rail, buses including DeCamp direct to NY Port Authority. Town quite safe with decent public schools. Look and feel is row-house and brick residential with a few major commercial streets, Walmart, etc. Good restaurants (including one of the best Chinese restaurants in NJ), fairly quiet. A lot of renters, students at NJPAC, Rutgers Newark, downtown NYC campuses. Prices range from $800 to $1800 ities for large one bedroom or two bedroom. Parking is free on the street with permit. Some car vandalism close to the Path Train. Huge construction of Red Bulls soccer stadium and Metrocentre mall going on this year near the Path. Area is changing gradually from blue collar industrial to gentrified international bedroom community.

Kearny is slightly more suburban, slightly better schools, further from transportation and campus, about the same in price.

Single or married? Harrison is probably what you're looking for. With kids? Kearny.
