FOIA vs Silence: A case for real security

Posted 11-09-2008 at 03:24 AM by linicx
I heard something today that made me sick inside.

President-elect Obama is in seclusion in Chicago where he spoke with the presidents of both Russia and Poland. Shortly thereafter CNN made the details public while hiding the identity of the mole under the mantle of "condition of anonymity". A breach, whether it is a breach of respect or a breacu tf national security, it stinks and it is no way to begin a new presidency. If I could talk to the new Chief of Staff I would tell him:

The USS Obama has not yet been launched, and already there is a leak the size of a house in her side. Seal the leak; charge the mole with Treason; muzzle the media, and insist that every employee, regardless of their position sign an agreement of silence as a condition of employment.

We are at war; loose lips sink ships. Your employer is certainly capable of deciding who, what, why, how, where and when he wants some, all or no information released. Do not allow enemies make that decision for him.

The media that prints or airs information without a cited source should be banned from the White House briefings, ceremonies, speeches, photo oportunities, and all access to Whilte House staff so they may learn how dear the price of freedom of speech. WE. as a nation have too little privacy as it is.

It is harder to get a driver's license than it is to expose an undercover agent. It is easier
to learn about our natinonal infrastructures and weaknesses than it is to open a savings account. It is easier to drive coast to coast undetected than it is to see a doctor. It is easier to breach HIPPA at any hospital in the US than it is to walk your dog on California beaches in the winter.

Surely National Security deserves something better than the flapping lips of air head entertainment news hosts.
