landlord tenant laws

Posted 11-11-2008 at 08:26 PM by smoore2050
I am a first time landlord and have had to do an eviction on the tenants at my residence.
It seems to me that the tenants have more rights than the owners themselves.
I started the eviction process and since the tenants removed the couple of item they had left at the property I thought I could finally change the locks. I couldn't! The tenants went to the magistrates office to and told them that they weren't finished getting everything when I know for a fact that they did and were just plain out telling a lie. They also managed to do some unseen damage that I will probably never be able to prove but know in my soul that they did. It just doesn't seem right to me that since they got the rest of their property that I can't change the locks to keep them from going in and doing any more damage to my property. Also because these tenants started out as friends and I was stupid enough not to ask them for a SS# I can't even get a judgement against them unless the judge sees fit to get their SS# from them and put a judgement on their record.
