What mankes a good handyman?
What makes a good "HANDYMAN"?
That is a good question and the answer depends on what you are looking for in a handyman. A lot depends on what services you are expecting from the handyman. Do you need painting, or repairs? Yard work or carpentry?
A handyman should offer different services and be able to preform in all services advertised. Not all handymen do the same things and use caution when hiring one. If the handyman is more orientated to yard work then in a plumbing repair project you may end up with a bigger problem than before he started. And the reverse is also true a handyman with a plumbing back ground may destroy your shrubs! So always ask some questions to find out what kind of back ground your handyman has.
A handyman should have the tools required to do the job. If he has to rent tools the price is going to come back on you. So not only are you paying for him to do a project for you , you are also paying for some thing he should already have. Now don't misunderstand me nobody has every tool but a handyman should have the tools necessary to complete jobs that he does regularly. Obviously a special job may need a special tool and some times you do have to rent things. The point that I am trying to make is that if a handyman advertises "pressure washing" and charges you a rental fee some thing is not right he should already have one. Or if he advertises "roof repair" but he does not have a ladder I would wonder about his ability to do the job correctly.
A very important thing in a handyman is that he has a neat appearance. This person is going to be in your home and he has potential to help or hurt your home. He may do a great good fixing a leaky faucet but it not very good if he wipes grease on the walls around the sink.
Another thing I would in consided in hiring a handyman is his age. I may be shooting myself in the foot here, but use caution when hiring young people. I am 34 and I have been in home construction for 17 years.I have learned alot but not no where near everything. If a guy is 21 he may be able to do some things but he he is not going to have the experience to deal with alot of the problems that come come up in the handyman business.
These are some of the things that I think make a good handyman. I warn you to use caution when hiring anyone to work in your home.
