Mired in Mud

Posted 11-19-2008 at 10:06 AM by jjbradleynyc
Doesn't it just bite when you get stuck in a rut and can't seem to get out? You know what I mean--same stuff, day-in, day-out. This rut of mine is different though--it's a rut of waiting for the next "change" to happen.
I've been interviewing since mid-September, and I've been getting interviews. Problem is, I haven't sealed the deal. Waiting on employers after I submit resumes is the absolute worst. Waiting on the interview, waiting on the results, waiting on feedback. Then you take my current position, where that's my job anyway, and it all gets muddled up in a game of waiting. I need some "fresh" perspective. I need to get out and do something original and fun--challenging and exciting. I was thinking of volunteering this Christmas season at a soup kitchen or somewhere that needs volunteer help. That would seriously get my mind "unstuck" and put to productive use.
This mired state reminds me of the kids book "Oh, The Places You'll Go"--by Dr. Seuss. The waiting portion of the book is the "darkest part" and the part warned by the author to stay away from with all your might in life!! Well, truth be told, that's the case--waiting is rough.
I've gotta clean off the mud, and get myself out there!
