Moving to Hawaii

Posted 12-14-2008 at 08:40 PM by tanya7808

So, I just recently got married to an awesome guy! He's has moved all around because his dad was in the airforce. Just brief blips or different surroundings as he was growing up. I, on the other hand, have lived in Illinois my whole life. When we had gotten married we both decided that it was time to be "on our own" for good. We wanted to move somewhere a little bit aways from our family. We thought about Pennsylvania, but his family lives there. We thought about the Carolinas, but nothing there really appealed to either of us, at the end of the day. I have always wanted to move to either two places, Ireland or Hawaii. (I know! Two VERY different places, but whatever) Anyway, he asked where I really wanted to go and, obviously to me Ireland was only ever going to be a trip for me, I said Hawaii. I never ever thought that he would actually want to move there. When he started looking at places for rent and different careers there, I had gotten so excited! We are both excited to learn about the lifestyle there and make it our lifestyle. Moving is expensive no matter where you live on the "mainland", but we have heard that Hawaii is REALLY expensive, so we have made plans to move there close to the end of next year. We have been doing a lot of research on places to live (knowing the places we look at are probably not going to be available when we decide to move, but getting an idea of costs) I thought that it would be a good idea to try and meet people who already live there or have lived there. Maybe if they live there, we could talk about life there, and the costs of things, and the culture. Possibly getting to know someone, to where when we actually move there, we will know, at least, one person. But there are a lot of issues with meeting people online, so I would settle with a little information from someone who calls or called Hawaii home.
