OMG, girl.. Texas is a wonderful place and Uiversity of TX is in Austin. It is a college town much like LSU. I think you'll have no trouble finding black friends. I don't know of any book clubs there, but I live in The Woodlands, an exclusive community N. of Houston and not far from Austin. You are going to LOVE it. Your daughter will be in a very good place and she will have both black friends and white friends. I would suggest you use Google for any questions you have like Google "Book Clubs in Austin". I've recently started just using it like a that and it's answering all of my questions. My husband and I (we are white, if it matters) are moving back to the Baton Rouge area. He doesn't want to, but I need to be with my family. I've been ill.

However, if the procedure I'm having this week works, I may be able to resume my normal life of traveling and photojournalism. You will need to be a resident of TX for 6 months before you can pay resident rates for tuition. Out of State tuition is outragious. She might do best going to a community college and transferring after 2 years. Really... she will be able to transfer to the college of her choice as long as she has above a 2.5, I think. If I can help you further, I will. I have surgery on Fri. but I should be home by Sun, and likely a couple weeks recovery. I suggest type in "Temp agencies in Austin"... also go to the Austin Newspaper and look in classified. Also go to Craigs List and see what you can find. You are going to do well, my friend. Ironically, I move to BTR on April 1st. My niece has a rental home i am going to live in. If you can afford out of state tuition you'll be ok, otherwise, i suggest the community college. TX is rated one of the top 20 maybe top 10. Lots of spirit. The Spirit of Texas. You'll love it.
