The Uncertain Future...

Posted 07-04-2008 at 02:31 PM by stotan88
Once upon a time, there was a boy who wanted, more than anything to go to China. However, he lived many hundreds of years ago, before planes and trains and cars. Being a determined boy, he decided to try and dig his way there. One day he began to dig a hole, hoping that one day, years in the future, he'd make it to the other side of the world.

And so everyday he dug more and more, deeper and deeper, his determination never subsiding. And though he knew he wanted to reach China so badly, he realized it was a lot of work, so much work that it often looked daunting and caused him to be skeptical that he'll ever make it to the other side of the world. But he continued to dig deeper into the earth and soon he would look up to see the opening at the place he first began digging as merely a dot of blue sky, only a few rays of the bright sun now reaching the boy in the hole.

He had dug himself so deep into the earth that he soon realized there was no turning back. He knew he had to reach China or else all his digging, all his effort, would be seemingly worthless...

-That's kind of how I feel these days. I have my goals, my aspirations, and I know they will be difficult to achieve, but I have a lot of determination that keeps me going every day. Yet the thought that I may not achieve these goals, that I may not amount to everything I want to be, is daunting. I feel scared sometimes, since I want my dreams to become reality so badly that if they don't, I'll be stuck in that hole in the center of the earth, unable to get out and unable to dig further since time won't allow it. In a way it could only make me more determined to reach my goals, but the thought of not achieving what I want in life scares me everyday and I'm worried I've dug myself in a hole too great to simply climb out of if my dreams don't come true.

I guess I should just continue digging, and hope that one day I will break the soil and reach my goals and dreams. All or nothing, right?

Until next time...

Stotan..Sometimes we worry so much that we fail to look back and see what accomplishments we have made..Take a deep breath and think about what goals you have met..Success in reaching a goal must be taken one step at a time..Take a day off now and then to relax and enjoy your youth...Best of luck to you..

Stotan, in the words of Sir Winston Churchill, "Never Give Up". We don't win every battle but we will when the war! It is ok to take a break from digging and smell the roses. Sometimes we need to remove ourselves from the picture and take a look from the outside. Sometimes we may see the need for a different type of shovel? Good digging and the best to you.

Stotan, blue is very much right. And I want to add, goals are just that, and should be stepping stones to higher goals. If there is something you really wish to achieve, then break it down into very attainable goals, or mini goals, then the overall task will not seem so daunting. Also, take time to celebrate whenever you meet one of the mini goals because that means you are one step closer to the larger prize you have your heart on. IF you have many large goals, you are setting yourself up to failure and to have feelings of being overwhelmed and in a rut, not accomplishing anything.

You seem to have a great head on your shoulders, and I am sure you have already realized this.

take care and blessings to you

If you have no goals you will succeed in meeting them.

If you have goals and fail to meet them, you are generally much further ahead then if you had no goals at all. The experiences you had in working toward that goal become invaluable life experiences.

If you fail that goal, then celebrate what you did achieve and learn. Take what you learned, refocus and set the next goal.

Having goals does not mean you have to have perfection - in fact, having perfection will generally drive you (and others) nuts over the long term.

Better to try and realize you didn't achieve it then to never try and always wonder.

Whereever you end up after all the trying is a great place. Life is an adventure and we don't know where the trail leads, but once you start down the path you get to see what is around the corner. If you never start down the path then you'll never know.

Dream big and enjoy the adventure. Its exciting to hear young people that have dreams and work towards them.
