Going to be relocating from Chicago to Denver area..any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Okay, well I just got back from a vacation to the beautiful state of Colorado. I was everywhere. Pueblo,Colorado city,Mt.princeton,Colorado springs and of course Denver. The whole state was beautiful from what i saw. I was walking down 16th street mall and realized that I was wanting to relocate. Well, Ive always wanted to move to Colorado but needed to make sure it was for me...Lo and behold IT IS! I am ideally looking for a house to rent for now due to the fact that I will most likely be bringing dogs with me. However, I am NOT opposed to a townhouse or apartment pending that it would be sufficient enough for all of them. I am hoping to find something that will give me the best of both worlds: mountains, city, stars and close to Denver. I am currently a registered medical assistant and will be looking for employment at one of the many hospitals denver has to offer. I am also looking for a college that offers a nursing program that will further my career. Some of my questions are as follows:
What are some good neighborhoods surrounding Denver? What are the average traffic times from suburbs to Denver? What is the average temp in the summer? I can go on and on. I also would be wanting to get some ideas on where the closest gyms are, grocery stores etc. If anyone reads this and can help, I would greatly appreciate it!

There are tons of threads on the Denver forum covering just about everything you asked there. Denver is also pretty pet friendly, even McDonald's drive thru's have dog biscuits to offer your dog. So don't think you have to get a house, a lot of apartments will allow multiple pets as well.

temps can be found on the city-data main statistics pages. https://www.city-data.com/city/Colorado.html

When looking and asking questions you shouldn't use "good" as your only descriptive word, ie. "good neighborhoods" because everyone defines it differently. Be more specific on the traits you're looking for and you'll get tons of information from people on the forums

traffic times can vary widely, again, more specifics on where in denver and where in each suburb. And are you asking because of commuting concerns or for after work visits to the city for night life concerns? Because the time of day can effect it as you know. But overall, traffic is lighter around Denver than Chicago.

Hopefully we can help you out.

    Read bottom message first....

    2nd message:
I went through my my research and pull out some useful information to help you.

    ADVICE:

    1. Rent before you buy. Take a year lease and then re-evaluate. You dont know if you will like the state, the weather, too much snow, your neighbors, your job, the city you choose, etc etc.
Just so you think clearly. Anything is possible.

    2. Colorado like any state has assistance programs that allow residents to have discounted rates or somehow sub-sized utilities among other services.
Your heat will be costly like the A/C is in California or NV in the summer. So take advantage of the programs offered. This has nothing to do with low income levels just available to anyone.

    3. Research your responsibilities, and see if CO meets your needs and desires.

    4. Great schools, work, recreation, culture. etc... CO offers alot that other places lack. The people are also down to earth and honest.

    5. Check out the following websites.

    Try:
Rentals.com - Homes for Rent, Apartments, Houses for Rent, Townhomes, Condos & Vacation Rental Properties
The Official Site of Colorado Tourism - Colorado Travel Guide, Vacation Planning & Trip Ideas | Colorado.com for municipality housing listings and utility assistance.
denver apts/housing for rent classifieds - craigslist put zip code in search on that page.
Search Homes for Rent | Houses for Rent | Rental Properties | and Apartments for Rent
Moving Tips Guide - Move Planning Guide - Checklist Moving Tips
(Check even if you will not use their services. Good read for what you dont know.)
    Cost of Living Comparison
PayScale - Cost of Living Comparison

We should take and become acquainted, then we will know someone when we make the move.

Hope that this is all encouraging. Feel free to write back. Good luck!!!!-traveltyp
