Christians and materialism...

Posted 02-23-2012 at 08:26 PM by the city

So I am wondering is everyone's opinion on how to deal with excess wealth? How much is excess? Do you think as followers of Christ we should avoid living in places with excess wealth?

I live in California, and my aunt who lives in Orange County and her family are Christians but are consumed by wealth and have became a little selfish in their ways. They shoot to perfect their lives, but I feel it's not to glorify God.

I personally feel being content with a middle class life is where we should all be.

God wants us to glorify him and serve him on Earth.

I feel we should use our wealth to do things that will help us be stable in life:
-eat healthy foods (God wants us to respect our bodies, so shopping at more pricey natural food markets would seem okay)
-economic sufficient cars (cars that are saying all I care about is showing off, but cars that show we are good tenders of money as God says we should do)
-homes (we don't need mansions, nor do we need two story homes. Single story homes with a room for each child to have their space to pray on their own is all we need. God wants us to be comfortable and happy, but not make our own temples)
-clothes (God wants us to feel good about ourselves. We don't need to have all designer line clothing, but having fashion to show off creativity and to have something to look in the mirror and look good in is okay)
-vacations (As long as we go to vacations and always remember to be a light where we travel, then God will want to enjoy ourselves if we go on cruises, to agnostic nations in Europe, or to any foreign place)
-nice communities (God wants us to be where we can grow, and if safety and good schools and clean cities is where we can grow, then God will want us there. But we should always be tithing, praying, and remember those we live in not the best communities)

That is all I have to say. Now respond back!
