I believe it's on topic. I do believe there was a hint within what He was saying that would say He wasn't literally saying that we would be eating Him and drinking His blood. (How can the entire world physically eat His body?) He referred to His words being spirit and life, and thus it can't be understood by the flesh. In the flesh, it looked like He was saying that people would eat Him and drink His blood, but He was telling them spiritual things that they could not understand.
Ultimately, what Jesus was saying is explained by the Gospels. So in whole, we know what Jesus was talking about.

Do you think God and Satan made a bet to torture job and to see who was right about Job? Is that allegoric or a true fact?
The Bible is full of allegory.
Do you think God did the creation in six days? Or is that allegoric?
