We currently live on 5 acres, on a street with 20-25 homes, but to my wife.... it is like living all by yourself. A neighborhood with other children, close to shopping, restaurants, parks etc. is good! We are not set against living in close proximity to other homes, old or new. A commute time of 25-30 min. is okay too. Off street parking would be a plus.

Pittsburgh - as much or as little activity as you want.

There's a lot more to do in Pittsburgh, especially the 'City Living' neighborhoods in the city like Shadyside, Regent Square, Northside. There are many price points depending on how established the neighborhood is. In Pittsburgh, there's as much or as little activity as you want - but you do have the options, which you might not have in those other places. You could also live just outside of the city, and easily drive in to hang out Downtown, Market Square like below.
