Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

The Cup That Runneth Not Over

Posted 03-31-2012 at 07:25 PM by case44

Remember when I shared that Olive Garden wine story not too long ago right here? About how a waiter spilled wine on my table? Well, I almost had a similar thing happen, but this time, the scene changes. This would-be adventure did not happen at Olive Garden (I wasn't even there today). In fact, I wasn't even at a restaurant.

I was at church.

All right, here is what almost happened. We were having communion at today's service. For the uninitiated, there's a plate we pass around that has holes in it to contain cups of grape juice and a separate place for little cracker pieces, and it's in observance of Christ's death. Anyhow, the usher who was passing the plates to people on different rows just happened to be approaching my row.............when he slightly tripped over one of the seats in order to get to me. Imagine the scene if he had let go of said plate (which would have headed straight through the air for my shirt as it would have landed on me).....

Thank goodness he held on and I didn't have to wear communion home with me. I just had to exercise more extreme caution than usual when handling the contents. The rest of the service went just fine, and this writer has still never seen an incident where communion elements were spilled during church. I'd say that's a great run!
