Coffee

This morning as I took my first sip of coffee, after having spilled it twice on the counter, I smiled.
Sometimes coffee is just coffee. Other times, coffee is home. As a child growing up the adults all sat around the table drinking coffee and I can remember standing next to my mom with my chin resting on the table.
It's almost as it was a way of life. My mother and grandmother, aunts and uncles. Sometimes my father. They all sat around the table talking, drinking coffee, and some of them smoking. The smoking I did not like, and I still do not.
My favorite person to drink coffee with these days is my sister. I don't think I have ever really told her, and I do not know if I have ever mentioned it here.
When we sit in her kitchen drinking our coffee I swear I can feel our mother sitting with us. My sister still has a few of our moms coffee cups, and I always choose one of those. Nothing fancy. Just plain burgandy color mugs.
Its even better when my brother and his wife are added to the mix. It just feels good. I went for many years not allowed to drink coffee in my own home. My ex-husband would not allow it. No coffee. No coffee pot. No nothing.
My sweetie makes my coffee for me every day and he will never know how much it means to me. I know it's just a pot of coffee but what he doesn't understand is how different he is than what I was used to for so many years.
He is different in so many ways and I love every one of them. I am smiling at him right now. Asleep in his recliner holding the remote.

Coffee is something I have to wake up to every morning, even if it's just one cup. After that, I try to eat healthy the rest of the day.
But I did hear not long ago that coffee is actually good for us. I may have read about it somewhere or heard it, but can't recall the source. If I can just locate that article, I'll let you know.Posted 05-08-2012 at 05:59 PM by malfunction -
I agree that coffee shared can be some of the best times of the day. But I live alone now, and unless I'm with family or hanging out at Barnes and Noble or some other coffee shop, I drink mine alone.
I'm not by nature a morning person. I don't function well until I've had my coffee. But it's come to be my favorite time of day. In addition to sipping my coffee, I journal, read, listen to the birds outside my sun room windows, and kind of plan my day.
I hate mornings where I have to cut my coffee time short due to an appointment or something else scheduled far earlier than I'd like. Those days are never quite as good as the ones where I can ease into the day and fully enjoy my coffee time.Posted 05-11-2012 at 03:59 AM by PhotogGal
