Hiking with Big' on the Snoqualmie Lake Trail

Saturday ended a long, back-straining week of reorganizing, moving and cleaning to move our possessions from the lower level of our home to the upper level. (We've decided to rent the downstairs as a separate unit -- again, to mitigate the lost income from my lay-off.) Bigun was feeling the effects as much as we were, though his was a build up of energy from lack of exercise, where ours was the opposite. When DH asked what I wanted to do on Sunday, I looked at Big' and knew immediately.
"Let's go hiking," I said.
An hour later the three of us were in the truck, headed south east for North Bend, or actually the exit east of there, to hike 2.5 miles up the Snoqualmie Lake Trail, along the Taylor River. Bigun absolutely LOVED it!
Being a hound-spaniel mix, it doesn't get much better than romping through the woods along a trail where all sorts of mysterious critters are leaving scents in the millions of places to explore. I am surprised that flagging tail didn't fall off his skinny little butt, it did so much wagging. We did let him off lead, and though he did have to be reminded MANY, MANY times to keep to the trail -- he performed very well. I think it was the attraction of encountering groups of hikers coming and going that were certain to exclaim: "Oh! How CUTE! Is it a puppy?" Followed by all kinds of pats and pets. (Of course he alway rewards his fans with a full body squirm, wagging tail, and a HUGE smile.)
As tired as we were, one might think that hiking up a hillside would be exhausting, but until we got home and got those boots off, we were both exhilarated by the event. Watching my dog cavort just elates me.
