Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, I'll set aside a place here for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

The 30-Dollar Steak Dinner - And I Only Paid Nine Bucks

Posted 06-05-2012 at 07:20 PM by case44

I could not resist. I just couldn't. The urge was beckoning. Time to get me a steak at one of my favorite places to eat in the state of Texas: Saltgrass. Little did I know that, by the end of the experience, another blog idea would hit me like a boxer's punch.

Your favorite blogger didn't want some puny little cut, but the biggest ribeye they had to offer. Bone-in, too. Ordinarily a 30-dollar meal with salad, baked potato, Shiner Bock bread, and iced tea. But in the parlance of things not quite expected, even said blogger gets surprised, and quite pleasantly. I just had to use my Landry's Select Club card for the first time (for future discounts and things like that). Not only that, but a gift card which I won at work (thanks to an office contest in which I was the runner-up amongst my colleagues) was used to pay for the meal. I thought I'd take a 34-dollar hit on the card, and it looks like..........

Wait a minute.

I got my check back from my waiter, and the Select Club card got me 25 dollars off, likely for my first usage of it (called a welcome reward). I still earned points to go toward future discounts on meals or appetizers. As I left, The Case got to pay only nine dollars for the entire dinner. Nine bucks, ladies and gentlemen, for a 24-ounce bone-in ribeye (called the Cowboy Ribeye).

Guess you could say it was a real good day!
