I caught an old episode of the "Waltons" last night and it brought me back to my childhood. (Back to "simplier" times!)...My Dad used to call my younger son "John Boy" when he was small. My son loved it! (And remembered it all his life.)...You'd never catch my older son watching old reruns of the "Waltons" or "Little House on the Prairie." But my younger son loved watching these shows because they gave him a "window" into the past. And they were about families...My older son took pride in being a "modern" and "with the times" kind of guy! I'm sure he viewed the rest of us as "old grey mares" because we enjoyed telling "tales" from the past. And taking trips down "memory lane."...My younger son "ate" it all "up" and kept begging for "more" when we started sharing stories from the past. He said this gave him a chance to get to know us even "better." And he loved hearing about life back in the "old days."...Both of my sons are gone now along with my husband and parents and everyone else. I am the only "apple" left on my "family tree." Watching the old episode of the "Waltons" last night helped me feel like I was part of a family again. (And this was sure nice!)

Hurry-up!.. Stop being a "slow-poke!"

Posted 05-06-2013 at 01:44 PM by CArizona

"Hurry-up! Get moving! Stop being a slow-poke!.. Can't you see? You're holding-up the whole line!"..."Get your booty in gear! Move faster! Stop dawdling! Time is money!"..."Nobody is going to make any special rules for you! Get cracking! Start hopping! Size things up fast and keep moving down the line!"....YUKKO! Put the whip away! And throw the time-clock in the trash! We're human beings...Not machines!... I used to take so much pride in being a "speed-demon" and multi-tasker but now I want to slow-down a little bit. (Whenever possible!)...I want to stop and "smell the roses" before I "kick the bucket!" How do you feel about it?

When I'm under stress or when I'm facing a "time-crunch" it's hard to have patience. (Patience with myself or anyone.)...I don't want to be cranky or irritable or negative...And I definitely don't want to "dump" on someone just because I'm so stressed-out. (Innocent bystanders.)...These days I try to do as much as possible ahead of time. (If possible.)...I'm trying to avoid being a "last-minute person" so I won't experience so much stress...But I can go "overboard" when it comes to "planning ahead" (at times) and stress myself out this way too.. How about you?

Do you think intelligence is linked to being fast (and quick) in general?...It's easy to be "quick" when we know what we want...But what happens if don't have a "grip" on who we are anymore?....Lately my "tastes" seem to be changing and I'm not always sure what I want. (Or what I want to do, etc.)...So I feel (and probably look) a little "slow" at times when I'm trying to figure-out what I want...Nothing is "automatic" or "for sure" anymore...Some of my lifelong "favorites" don't always appeal to me anymore. (Or "fit" the "new me.")...So I can't always "grab fast" and "get going" like I did in the past...Since I used to wrap my identity around being a "speed demon" it's hard for me to cope with being "slower" now...Duh! What happened to the person who used to know herself so well? Did she die too?...Oh well! I guess I'm going through a "rebirth process" now. (Whether I like it or not!) And I better get with the "program!"

A lot of people my age talk about "being old." And this "gets old." (To me!)...I ran into a friend this morning and she went on and on about "being old."...She warned me that I won't be able to "move fast" when I get to be her age. (She's 74 and I'm 65.)...My friend has always been a "go-getter" and she still "hops around" all over the place. (More than I do!)...Guess she just feels obligated to do "old talk" since this is the norm in her "world."...It's the norm with a lot of my other friends too. They blame everything on their age and predict the "worst" for themselves and anyone else. (Close to their age.)...Anyway, I'm not a big fan of "old talk." But I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings by making a big deal about it. And some people can even get "huffy" or defensive if someone objects to their "getting old" talk...Oh well! We're all different!!
