What memories will your kids have?

The debate about kids driving cars really made me think about all the fun things I did as a child that my kids and neices and nephews will never be able to experience.
When I was a kid (11ish years old) I have fond memories of exploring the woods with my best friend and all the things we encountered and experienced ranging from homeless people to abandoned vehicles, lawn mowers, etc. We even found a rife stock once. We built a club house in the woods using old wood and boards we found. We played in the stream, dug around in the dirt, had a blast - all without parental supervision. At my uncles house, we used to drive his cars on his property as young as 8 years old. We would ride mopeds and dirt bikes in the woods, drove go-karts off home made ramps, all without parental supervision.
I look at the current generation of kids, and what are they going to remember? Micromanaged activities and staring into a tablet or smartphone? I really feel sorry for them, because I can look back with fond memories, but I look at kids now a days and they just don't look happy. They look stressed to me. You should see the amount of homework and books middle schoolers have to lug around they need wheel equipped luggage to carry it all. They even have sporting events on once sacred days like Mother's day, because you know, sports are the most important thing in today's society - travelling all over the place to compete with other towns, it is getting out of hand IMO.
Perhaps I am old fashioned, but think about what fun things you did as a kid that your children will not be able to experience because we have as a society watered down life and are micromanaging the heck out of our kids through endless sports and controlled activities. Does anyone agree? I am probably going to be alone on this one.
