Summer winds down, the Town and I, still here.

Thus endeth Mosquito season 2014. Anyone could have bagged their limit on any given day. What an insanely buggy summer it's been.

Plenty of rain too and this time around I was thankful for it. Rather extensive garden activity this year, and let me tell you this; that work was way over the top crazy. It was a never ending cycle of planting, watering and care taking. Weeds and grass growing out of anything and everything. Alas once these wonderful plants began to bear the fruit of labor, it was seemingly all worth it.

What to do with it all? You use and you use it until you run out of ideas and then take the extra stuff to work. Not long after those that would take it ran out too. One can only can so much in reality. We've done that too.

Another thing keeping us in produce, we've joined in with a CSA membership. That's Community Supported Agriculture. For a fee we get a weekly delivery of fresh local produce from Redfern Gardens, a farm a few miles east of town. Well worth it!

And so it's been a particularly busy summer in she sleepy agricultural hamlet called Sebeka. Some progress in the city towards pushing off the obituary. A new Cafe, Hub71 opened up for business. Nice enough place but it could use some competition. The American Legion building was sold to the City and so they're doing a re-model and moving the Municipal Bar & Off-sale away from Main Street and onto the Highway. Good for business, good for us whom partake in the consumption of spirits, but not so good for Main Street as yet another business will be gone from it. Lets hope they can sell it to someone with a good business sense. We desperately need businesses on the Main Street and not another empty store front.

Town Government has undergone some changes. A new Chief of Police is patrolling the streets of Sebeka, although you wouldn't know that looking at their own web site as it still reflects the former Chief. Two new counsil members are joining one on board now (Tyler Schmitz owner of T&M Automotive) and the other (My neighbor Mike) who is running un-opposed in Novembers Elections. I know the both well and sure hope they'll be allowed to bring some new life to the City Council. Dave Anderson the current Mayor is jumping in for another term. We've seen some progress with Sebeka and now with the new members hopefully they'll help keep Sebeka above ground.

The soon to be Sebeka Muni Liquor store is just up the alley from me. I'm looking forward to once again spending some quality time in that building.
