Upcoming vacation to Palm Springs?

Posted 11-03-2014 at 10:07 AM by MItoBH

A friend recently moved to Palm Springs and has invited me to visit. It would give me yet another opportunity to explore my future life in California, so I'm excited about the prospective visit. If I can find a bargain flight, I'll jump on it, but I need to be careful with my spending money as I also am planning a big trip to Ireland/England at the end of May.

When I move to California, it'll be in the LA area, but I know it will be great to experience Palm Springs to see a non-coastal California city. I have been to San Francisco, LA, and San Diego, all right there on the Pacific coast.

    Hi,
Things to think about flying to Palm Springs. PS is not a place to fly into for a few reasons
    1) most airlines do not fly direct to PS therefor, depending on where your coming from you will have at least 1 and a high chance of having 2 layovers to get here.
    2) flying into PS airport is expensive, Ontario is about a 45 minute drive and less expensive and best option is LAX (Los Angeles) then rent a car or they do have shuttle buses from LAX to PS. In either cases from LAX, it’s about a 2 hour drive.

Make sure your familiar with weather conditions for PS, just because it’s the desert doesn’t mean it’s always hot. Most the year (except summer months) the evenings and nights can be cool to cold and windy a lot of the time.

I’ve lived here 3 years now and most the rain hits late December into January-March if it’s gonna hit and when it does it’s usually a lot. There is no sewer system here so the roads will become flooded and you will feel free like your driving a small boat and it doesn’t stop the locals from going out unless it’s a major storm. This year PS got hit by a big storm and the first two exits off the I-10 into PS were washed out for almost 2 weeks along with several major roads in town. What a headache for most but not me because I was in the hospital for most of this time.

PS is a great to visit but has it’s own pitfalls like the few I’ve mentioned already. Best of luck with your travel and it’s associated cost getting to PS.
