Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Country Songs Just Have The Best Titles Anywhere

Posted 12-15-2014 at 06:40 PM by case44

As many of you know, I'm a country music enthusiast. Specifically, I'm into classic country music. It has a very long, rich history of telling stories about life, put together with catchy melodies. But have you ever stopped and thought about some of the titles of those songs?

Words do matter in country music, maybe more so than in any other genre. Sometimes, you might chuckle at some of the things that happen in this thing we call life. You'll sometimes hear artists sing songs like:

She's Out Here Doing What I'm Here Doing Without - Gene Watson
If I Said You Had A Beautiful Body, Would You Hold It Against Me? - The Bellamy Brothers
You're The Reason Our Kids Are Ugly - Conway Twitty & Loretta Lynn
The Only Hell My Mama Ever Raised - Johnny Paycheck
Dropkick Me Jesus (Through The Goalposts Of Life) - Bobby Bare
You Can't Have Your Kate And Edith, Too - The Statler Brothers
and
Thank God And Greyhound She's Gone - Roy Clark

And many more titles with stories to be told:

I Wish I Were In Dixie Tonight, But She's Out Of Town
How Can I Miss You If You Won't Go Away?
I Keep Forgettin' I Forgot About You
Timber, I'm Falling (In Love With You)
Mama Get The Hammer - There's A Fly On Papa's Head
She Feels Like A New Man Tonight
Tennis Must Be Your Racket
I Bought The Boots That Just Walked Out On Me
The Pint Of No Return
I've Got You On My Conscience, But At Least You're Off My Back
Learning To Live Again Is Killing Me
The Worst You Ever Gave Was The Best I Ever Had
I Changed Her Oil, She Changed My Life
Get Your Biscuits In The Oven And Your Buns In Bed
My John Deere Was Breaking Your Field While Your Dear John Was Breaking My Heart
If My Nose Were Full Of Nickels, I'd Blow It All On You
She Got The Ring, I Got The Finger
I'm So Miserable Without You, It's Like Having You Here

Let's face it, sports fans: Country music is something we can all have fun with from time to time. Life told in so many ways, it gives the English language a whole new meaning.
