Bright Patterns.

I apologize in advance if my blog is redundant. You will notice a theme: death.

Bright patterns appear to awaken a part of the brain in Alzheimer's patients, for some reason those dizzying patterns activate certain neurons. Neurons which are struggling to fire, despite a decrease in mass of the brain, an increase of tangles, and plaques interfering with electrical impulses, impairing the individual's personality, sensory, and basic function, until functioning is impossible.

One day, my patient, my first patient "Jeff" lay in bed while his wife, "Brenda", tended to him.

One magical day, "Jeff", who had just recovered from the indignation of being washed and t turned, reached over and tried to say something about the bright egglike pattern on my scrubs. He held my scrub top between his hands, and disjointed and confused words fell out of his mouth.

Dear "Brenda" next to, watching, ever watching as I tended to Jeff. As I went about my duties I asked , "Jeff, do you know who this woman is? She is your wife, she has been married to you for sixty years." "Jeff's" endless sea blue eyes widened in amazement, (maybe recognition!?!?)as if he heard the best story of his life, he let out a stream of rhythmic sentences, words confused however in rhythm, reached for "Brenda". Those blue eyes locked on "Brenda's beautiful loving ,tender, brown eyes. "Brenda" completed the embrace and tenderly rested her head on his head, eyes closed in bliss. Sixty years, sixty years of love.
