Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

No Limits? Try High Post Counts

Posted 03-04-2016 at 09:10 AM by case44

Websites are real funny sometimes, but they are things that this writer can never explain. Not intelligently, anyway. And the things that help make a certain website can either limit you or help you do more things. Once upon a time, technology may or may not have been good enough to accommodate certain bandwidth. Maybe today, things might be a little different.

Where am I going with this, you ask?

It's just that I've made some new posts in two key places this morning on City-Data, where it's great to be alive. I posted a funny Red Steagall song in the thread called "What Song Are You Listening To RIGHT NOW?" in the Music forum. What's funny about that is that my post is number 12,345 on that thread. How great is that? 1-2-3-4-5. Just like that. I'm the only one who will have that number in the entire thread. A few minutes later, I'm in another thread, "Something To Say -- Anything" over at Other Topics. I reminded everyone about how big that thread has gotten, and is getting bigger. They're upwards of 15,700. I've never seen any thread on C-D get that big. Now, granted, I don't go on too many sections of this forum, and there may be other threads out there that are also getting real big, but these two I've mentioned are going through the stratosphere.

My point is this: Perhaps things have changed regarding post limits in threads, and that your computer might not be slowing down after all once you open a thread. It used to be, after 8,500 posts, a thread would be retired and a new one would have to be launched in order for that topic to continue. Looks like the rules have been relaxed quite a bit. Just saying. Not complaining, either; this could well be a good thing.

You know, it'd be real interesting to see just how high we can go on those two aforementioned threads, not to mention others out there with 10, 12, 15 thousand posts. Maybe the sky's now officially the limit.
