True, Dallas is in the middle nowhere in a flat isolated location. Yet it has the biggest metro in the state.
I think Austin and Nashville's airport are on the same level, but BNA is going through an expansion that will put it on another level above Austin. Austin has no plans to expand the airport.
Also, Austin has no plans to extend public transit. Nashville has proposed a 6 billion dollar plan that will include light rail to all corridors of the metro. And the mayor in nashville is serious about public transit.
I agree with kcmo, Nashville has more potential than Austin. Like he said, it also helps that Nashville is in a great location and has no state rivals to deal with.

How is Dallas "isolated"!? Denver is. Dallas has two major airports, is a big rail hub and has FOUR interstates passing through it. Denver is flat. It's not IN the mountains but to the east. And when you look east of I-25, its ALL flat. Trees? Nothing.
Dallas has no mountains or big hills like west Austin but has an abundance of lakes within an 80 mile radius, lots of trees and in certain areas rolling hills.
