He Is Risen! (Reposted from 2011)

Matthew 28:1-6 (New International Version) 1 After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb. 2 There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. 3 His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. 4 The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men. 5 The angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. 6 He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. - What a day that must have been for those two women on that first Easter morning. They got up at dawn to check on the grave of a friend, which was the custom of that day, certain that their friend Jesus was dead and in his tomb. Instead they found the tomb open, Jesus gone, an angel of the Lord who looked very frightening sitting there talking to them, even an earthquake. Something like that could screw up your whole day. But this is the way God chose to announce that his son Jesus had risen from the dead just as he said he would, and probably few believed him then just as today. Come on, Jesus rose from the dead after three days? YES! We can be sure it's true because God tells us about it in his word. It was part of his plan to provide salvation for all mankind, to cleanse us from sin which he takes very seriously. Jesus became the one sacrifice that could forgive the sins of anyone who follows him and accepts his free gift. This Easter season we should all remember that. What About Jesus?
