Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Scattershooting / Sara Evans Will Be Back

While you're out there cooling off somewhere, I'm in an air-conditioned setting and about to do more Scattershooting for the masses. Thought we'd gather around the computer campfire and shoot the breeze while praying for another one. So, pass the lemonade and we'll make sure that the ice doesn't melt too quickly for that next sip to be oh, so effective.

Fans of country music really have nothing to fear. There's plenty of good oldies that we can always lean on, and we still have George Strait and Alan Jackson to keep reminding us of how it can still be done today, amid the outlandish pop sound that Nashville is now mostly infected with. And that leads to this: What has happened to Sara Evans? She was one of the hottest female stars of last decade, but hasn't really done a lot this decade, save for a new Christmas album in 2014. Word is, she's finally broken up with RCA Records after a 20-year run. We may not know the name of her new label as yet, but a new album is imminent.

That's right. Sara Evans will be back.

Indeed, she will have a brand-new album that's slated to be released in late July. It's entitled, "Words". Every Sara Evans fan will want a copy of that. So, we know that the Missouri native with the flowing, brunette hair will be back.

One person who definitely won't be back is Adam West. We lost him nearly a couple of weeks ago at age 88. Leukemia. You will always remember him as Batman, and so will I, but I also remember him as a smooth, yet dynamic, personality. He had a great ability to mix charisma with near-silence. But he was a heck of an actor, and certainly be missed.

Thanks, Adam, for the things you've done for us.

Frisco Memorial High School (Frisco, TX) won't be open for one more year, and its campus is almost completed. But in looking at the baseball field's press box, we may have some idea what the colors will be when the place finally opens. Would you believe black and beige? Unless I'm being deceived by generics, that's what officials will go with. I'm cool with that. I'm just glad that blue isn't one of them. The reason? Every school in West Frisco has some type of blue. The school is close enough to that area that it needed something else.

By the way, I can look inside of the new Lawler Middle School from the darkness outside. It appears those colors will be orange and black. One year from now, we will find out their mascots.

Did anyone notice that, a few weeks ago, there was one day where baseball's National League West division had standings that read like this: The top three teams had records of 33-22, and the bottom two were 22-33? Well, a fellow C-D poster pointed that out in the Baseball forum not long ago. 33-22 and 22-33. You don't see that display every day....

President Donald Trump is doing very well and, so far, has had a successful presidency. Unfortunately, he's had to get a lot of his agenda done by himself, since do-nothing congressional Republicans haven't been much help. We are putting people back to work and keeping jobs here in our great country. We're seeing less and less regulation on business and other things. We are also closer to getting the (Un-)Affordable Care Act repealed so that people can actually have affordable health care and Americans can have lower taxes.

Are a lot of people hearing about it?? Sadly, no.

Much of our media is so biased and so one-sided and all with only one mission: They want to destroy Trump. Well, they haven't and they're not going to. And it really isn't fair, what with all the good things he's doing for America, and it's just not getting reported. All is not lost, dear friends. Praise God that we have other sources of news and social media on the internet. But the media, along with an evil man by the name of George Soros, and the radical left wing of this country (not to mention a few so-called "establishment" conservatives who are not living up to their principles), just want to get rid of conservatives and President Trump. How sad that we cannot unite together and agree on something, even if it is to disagree. Liberals are continuing to practice hypocrisy and blatant discrimination while my fellow conservatives are fighting real hard to keep America afloat. Also, kudos to people like Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity for helping better inform us each and every week on all the crap being thrown at us by the left.

Please, folks, continue to pray for this nation and pray for our president. It's a bigger job than most believe, and, given the events of this last week in Virginia, more dangerous and challenging than ever.

Expansion is taking place at Lubbock's Breakfast House. A third location is being added in the city. Problem is, it's going in at 50th Street and Indiana Avenue. Why, you ask? Because it's awfully close to the Loop 289/University Avenue location. I was hoping that the peeps would look at locations outside the Loop, both in south and west Lubbock. A bit surprising, but definitely still good news for locals who can't get enough of Lubbock's Breakfast House, which will be one of my stops on my Llano Estacado trip next week.

Anyone who has listened to Dallas' KAAM-AM (770) on Sunday mornings has come across a show called Lake Country Jubilee. It's a program with Southern Gospel music and some of the leading artists of the day. The host is Harold Marshall, and he's still plugging away at it. He's the only host I remember them having, and I've listened to the program off and on for more than 15 years. Listening to it has become a Sunday tradition, so more power to them!

Marshall's in his 70s, but you wouldn't know it by listening to him. He doesn't sound a day over forty.

Oh, and there is more movement going on in Frisco schools. Lebanon Trail High just lost their first principal, Devin Padavil, to an open position in the Fort Bend school district near Houston. After one year, no less. So much for seeing a freshman class graduate as first-time seniors after watching them for four years. That would have been a sight to see. Also, Liberty High will be getting a new principal, as Scott Warstler also got a promotion and is moving to a different position within the district.

Lubbock-based August Pies has a fan in me. And their business will pick up the very moment I hit town. I'm still craving those great fried pies, and I am beyond ready to grab an apple. And a peach. And a chocolate.

Wish they had blueberry....

Hope you're staying cool out there.

And there you are.

Those of you in Georgia, hopefully all you conservatives are getting out there and voting. Get out there and vote. Karen Handel would have my vote if I ever lived there. Stick it to the left-wingers. Stand up for America! Don't believe the media, ever.

Last night, I tried to look locally at Market Street for August Pies. The latter's Facebook page suggested that there is supposed to be a Dallas distributor wishing to bring the pies to D/FW Market Street locations. That was two years ago, supposedly, but it gave me reason to go to my closest Market Street and check, anyway. No dice.

Dang, looks like I might want to visit the pie place on one of my three trips planned for Iraq. Made me hungry just thinking about it.
