And actually, not according to CEO Gail McGovern (ironically, my old boss). I happen to follow the Red Cross because I keep waiting to see what SHE is going to do, as a fairly controversial figure and the bad shape the Red Cross has been in for A LONG TIME - running an annual deficit of hundreds of millions of dollars before she even took over in 2008. An no surprise to me, she seems to not have improved it at all and perhaps made it worse. Although others say differently.

No surprise to me, the organization is reeling with mismanagement controversy INCLUDING made cuts in the formula it uses to determine cash benefits to victims of home fires and other disasters... but she claims The Red Cross donations are up 14% not including specific campaigns for specific decreasing national disasters.

Regardless, Americans are the most generous people in the world. Last month I personally donated an ENTIRE TWO BEDROOM CONDO worth of furniture and contents all mint condition, including 2 BR, LR, DR, Kitchen, Office, and garage type items.

The clothes - I might add- were barely worn and many new with tags. So, sorry you're insulted by what people can manage to provide.

My county in FL is RIDICULOUSLY obsessed with charity. Not a weekend goes by without something going on including just a couple of months ago raising over $300,000 at a Dancing With the Starts thing....because my county has a lot of wealth.

It infuriates me because the recipients are all "the children" usually, when the very donors are majority seniors living in luxurious conditions and I personally feel they should be fundraising for other seniors not just kids. We have so many shelters we have empty BEDS and as such have people moving here just because they want the social services [from the "rich people" who worked and saved all their lives]

Another current fact I read is that most RENTERS fail to purchase RENTERS insurance which happens to be dirt cheap.

So your TWO experiences should be a warning to all renters about personal responsibility.

So not to change the subject but maybe "the needy" would want to work with the charities MORE such as: offering to put in the sweat equity of donation packing and moving etc just like they have to do at Habitat to get a no money down cheap house or rehab.

When I walked into the Goodwill in my neighborhood with a couple of totes in a shopping cart worth $1000.00 of new tech equipment, mint condition shoes, bags and clothing....the guy told me to "Call and make an appointment to drive around the back and give it to them when the bins were open."

So yeah, SPOILED.

Runswithscissors If you don't mind me asking you. Where do you live in FL?
