5 Things to Consider When Choosing a Neighborhood

Posted 09-19-2017 at 10:04 AM by Chelsea Esposito

1. The Community
*** Is there a neighborhood association? Are the neighbors involved in each other's lives? Are there block parties or does the neighborhood decorate during Christmas time? The answers to these questions may not be deal breakers, but they may help you to decide a tie breaker.

2. Distance to Work
*** Some people don't mind a commute, but most prefer to be close to work. Whether you prefer to have some drive time to unwind on your way home, or if you'd rather be able to run home on your lunch break should be important factors in your decision.

3. Safety, Safety, Safety
*** This is a big one. Especially if you have kids. Beyond just the obvious question of crime rates, some important things to ask are: Is there a lot of traffic in the neighborhood? Is it a gated community? Is there a neighborhood watch group?*In the event of a natural disaster (hurricane, flash flood, forest fire, etc) how difficult will it be to leave if necessary?*

4. Distance to Activities
*** Equally as important as distance to work (if not more so) is how far away entertainment is from your new home. In Tampa Bay, proximity to the beach is usually paramount. If you frequent city events, you'll want to make sure you're not too far from the downtown area.

5. School District
*** If you have children, you'll of course want to make sure the nearby schools are academically suitable. Keep in mind that Tampa Bay no longer has a zoning policy so you may enroll your kids in a school outside your neighborhood, but once again commute time is of course an important element to consider.*

Your Realtor*will likely ask these questions in order to help you refine your search, so knowing your criteria*ahead of time will help you to find your dream home that much sooner.

Happy House Hunting!
