Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Yet Another American Tragedy: Thoughts And Prayers For The People In Vegas

It's getting to be more of a common sight in America these days. Mass shootings in public places, previously a rare happening just a few short years ago, are now, sadly, way more frequent in today's society.

They always hit close to home, but this one really has for country music fans last night. Artists Jason Aldean and John Rich (of Big & Rich) were performing on stages near the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas when a crazed gunman used his ammo and opened fire on a number of innocent concertgoers. Many died, and many more were injured. Aldean and Rich were unhurt, thankfully, and they both had to stop their shows when the bullets rang out from the 32nd floor of the nearby hotel. People were out there just having a good time, enjoying life, and minding their business, only for a galoot to ruin it all for the sake of spreading misery. It was unneeded.

Folks, there are no words for a tragedy like this one, and many similar ones which preceded it in places here in America and around the world. Our thoughts and our prayers do go out to the families of those who were injured or killed in the incident, in which the gunman, by the way, took his own life shortly thereafter. Those families need comfort and solace right now in the wake of this horrible tragedy. There was much unneeded sadness in Vegas last night. And regardless of the motive for said gunman, there was just no need for it.
