Certainly over a period of time, one or more persons has told them... Perhaps they have even been medically diagnosed.

But having been involved with one.... I am quite sure that many (if not most) will dismiss these as simply opinions of the "unenlightened".

I have come to believe that they are certainly aware of their actions and their consequences.

As a result... they almost certainly have some control, and apparently are aware of social norms.

In my case at least, while she was aware, she simply did not care!

Remember, part of the disorder is the ability to reject social norms and act purely on their own desires.

Add to this a lack of remorse, and an ability to justify nearly any action...

So, the question..... Are they self aware that they are broken personalities?
An interesting topic to me, skating the borderlands between sane and not-so-much, I strongly suspect. One might hope that even that level of self-awareness tilts me to the sane...I do wonder sometimes. Never mind.

Danger of self-diagnosis is ever-present among us.

Yes, I can read DSM V, however.

I "think" I have narcissistic traits, let's leave it thus. Nothing diagnosed, nor will ever be if I have antyhing to say about it.

Thus, like anything else on the Internet, my views are subjective, sample set of 1. Take as you will.

The actions and conseuqences of those who put themselves first, most of the time? Sure, we know them. And to your point, who cares? That's someone else's dumb problem for allowing themselves to be downtrodden. Assertiveness, self-awareness, indeed. Just not interested in most people's problems, social norms can go straight to hell.

There are consequences to these actions, others are not stupid. To be fully aware of cause and effect is a sign of what kind of enligtenment, exactly? I'm aware of that, and once again: I do not care, I accept the good with the bad. The phrase "deep down" is used in several replies; what if "deep down," we really, *really* don't care about you and your problems (chuckle).

"Remorse" is an amusing indulgence, people. Not being particularly interested in your problems does imply lack of remorse, to be sure. There is no need to "justify" anything, if you don't have remorse btw.

That doesn't imply we cannot be stealthy, however. Of course we can. We must be, to fit in, for as long as we can before we're found out. Then it's time to move on, to the next batch of suckers.

Some of these are probably broken traits, in OP's opinion. In mine, they are the very traits that facilitate success. Not short-term, long-term. Really look down the road a bit, understand that what you may consider broken traits might be advantageous to an individual's survival and prospering? Hmm?
