hunterseat df: Hunter Seat Equitation is a division that is judged on the ability and the style of the rider. The riders can be judged both over fences and on the flat.

Although true, hunters DO eat, at least the skilled ones do, my name derives from the world of horses.

And because the word hunter is in my name, people automatically think I'm a guy. Not even close.

Whenever I meet someone named Hunter I have to bite my tongue to keep from saying "That's my name, too!"

Book Smart

I'm not a book hoarder...anymore. I used to have a ton of books but there was a time when it got overwhelming and I had to let them go.

I began passing along really good books when I found them - after reading them, of course.

If a book just didn't do it for me and I couldn't imagine anyone for whom the book would do it, I'd toss it in the trash. Yes, I truly did.

So now I go to the cheap and free places and peruse, usually grabbing two or three at a time. I've been fairly successful. I could always check out books from the library but there are usually plenty of free or cheap books to be found.

I really like historical fiction but murder mysteries seem to be my go-to favorites.

When I got to Connecticut I kept running upon New England based books. Books about light houses, Nantucket, Cape Cod... I thought it was because I was actually IN New England so the taste of people here must run to this area.

Then I got a job offer in Manhattan. By some coincidence I came across a book based in early Manhattan involving Irish immigrants (my ancestors) and containing many cool historical facts about the island. (Did you know Manhattan doesn't have a natural water source?) I ended up not being in that Manhattan position but I look at it from a different perspective.

I finished my most recent book - and I've already forgotten what it was - hold on. OH The Pilot's Wife and it seemed to be a New England based novel.

These are all great books - which is why I read them. I read an Amish murder mystery, which seemed unusual but ended up being really good.

Typically, once I read a book I set it down and move on. Unless it's something WAY out of the norm (like Lone Wolf or that crazy elephant story), I don't recall it readily but if I ever pick it up again it comes back to me. Or if I see a movie of the book. I know I've read it Like the Girl on the Train (the book was better - hard to capture someone's thoughts on film)
So NOW what do you suppose is on the agenda? It's a book called: *reaches over to nightstand and flips book over* The Lincoln Lawyer. I open it up (it was a freebie I started last night) and guess what the very first words were? "The morning air off the Mojave in late winter is as clean and crisp as you'll ever breathe in Los Angeles County."
NO WAY! Guess where I'm moving to?? (sorry about that sentence structure)
The Mojave. Yep. Sure as shi... shinola. Am too. Yes I am. (you obviously haven't been following my "Next Job" thread.

So how did that book end up in my hands? There's something spooky going on here! And what made me decide a few years in the desert is a smart move? I must say, that sentence alone aleves my fear of roasting to death 365 days a year.

I always say "If God wants me to have a job, I'll get the job." and I had 4 job offers but the only one on paper was this one. It happened...after a year of applying.

There's something symbolic about being in the desert. Now it will be literal. But if that's where I'm supposed to be, I'll make the best of it! Let the words flow.

P.S. Read and Read.....red and reed. Who came up with this language???!!!
