Mountain biking around West Michigan

Posted 02-14-2019 at 12:29 PM by GrandRapidsNative

I am an active guy or at least try to be. One of my favorite things to do is ride my Mountain bike. Here are my top 5 places to ride off road trails in West Michigan.

Please keep in mind that many rotate the direction of the flow each day. Check the signage at the trailheads! Be sure you are also are not leaving ruts in the trail also.

Merrell Trail.

Located in Rockford Michigan this 8-9 mile single track is loaded with fun. It has a great flow to it and it is one of the best trails in the area. Pretty challenging especially if you take the tough features along the way. Check conditions, parking and maps here:https://www.facebook.com/MerrellTrails/

Yankee Springs Deep lake trail:

This 11 mile trail is a hoot. I love that it is located near a State Park camp ground for a weekend getaway camping/biking/fishing excursion. Lots of rolling hills and challenging climbs. The trail is well marked also. https://www.facebook.com/Yankee-Spri...3779293053017/

Luton Park:

Back up towards Rockford Michigan for another Gem. This one is not as challenging or rewarding in my opinion as Merrell Trail but it is top notch in excitement. A great parking lot for its multi-use visitors. Several smaller loops which branch out from a larger loop. It really is a great ride.

Upper Macatawa Cycling trail:

Although this trail is relatively new, it is becoming a larger trail every year it seems. Great thought has gone into the layout of the offroad trail and its other paved trails trails as well. Part of the Upper Macatawa Natural area which in itself is a great visit. https://www.miottawa.org/Parks/upper.htm
Or check out its facebook page for more up to date conditions. https://www.facebook.com/UpperMacatawa/

Last is Fort Custer:

Also situated within State Park land lies this rugged gem of a mountain bike trail. 15 miles of beautiful Single track. I like combining this with a state park camping stay along with some fishing mixed in. A great weekend a bit away from home. https://www.facebook.com/SWMMBA/
