Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Bacharach May Be 91 On Sunday, But He Must Do All Of Us A Favor

Like many of you, I've been a fan of Burt Bacharach and his music. The legendary composer will be 91 years of age this coming Sunday. And can you believe he's still touring? Yep. California soon, Germany and The Netherlands later.

He's still kicking it and just not stopping. Songwriting is still his big thing, and he continues to cook up new tunes to add to his already-huge collection. What is it, upwards of a thousand songs? What else can a guy do for a whopping six decades? That's how long Burt's been doing this. His longtime lyricist Hal David passed away a few years back, but Burt's had other people write lyrics for him. He's even done some himself. For the right reasons, you say? Not really.

As much as I want to continue to be a fan of his, what with his genius approach to his melodies and his illustrious history, I'm deeply troubled by something that's come up. I've just read an article in The Guardian here on the interest. Now, I really don't trust today's media, as they've shown a penchant for pettiness and dishonesty, but if what's contained in this article is true, then this is deeply disappointing and troubling.

Burt Bacharach is letting politics get the best of him.

He cannot let this happen. Whatever his political leanings actually are (and I think he's swinging both ways), he must not give in to pressure from left-wing groups to shape how he should think. Even if he were a life-long Democrat, then I don't see how he could stand the baloney and the phoniness that is rampant in that party. Get this: In the article, Burt actually calls Dems "the good guys". What the....?? This legend has allowed today's corrupt media to poison his mind. And now, that poisoned mind is creeping into his music and ideas. By the way, he has a new album coming out. He's even joined the resistance bandwagon against President Donald J. Trump. Despite the fact the Americans are getting to work more than ever and are earning more, despite a very bright future for many of us here, Bacharach chooses, instead, to echo the negativity from the left.

Oh, great! As if we needed another Trump hater.

I never would have expected this from Burt. After all, he likes people and is a likable human being. As much as I'd have loved for this guy to be a conservative, it should matter what his leanings are. You wonder, though, who's side he's really on (Word is, he voted for John McCain in the 2008 elections). In any event, he shouldn't just come out and start hating this country and the things it possesses. Yes, our culture is messed up, but that's because of politics. President Trump, meanwhile, should not be blamed for things like gun violence, homelessness, other countries' problems, on and on. We civilians have enough arrows to dodge and enough balls to juggle. Burt has been poisoned by today's vicious media and has been sucked into it. He's looking at our world through a decidedly different set of goggles. Never mind what's been previously talked about here; you already know.

Here's the link to said article. You decide after you read it.

Hey, Burt, I thought what the world needed now was love. What changed? What happened with you??

Hating Trump is love??? Oh, that'll excite many people.

Burt, I'm a fan of yours, but you must have faith in a great big God who loves all of us. You must also remember this place called America. It's the land of the free and the home of the brave. It's the one which we nearly lost in 2016 had our current president not won the election. It's a nation that let you go on stage and play your songs. It's a place that listened to your songs. Burt, what the world does need now is love, if only the party you embrace at the moment changes its heart and its mindset. What it also needs is common sense. The last thing America needs is one more Trump hater, regardless of what frivolous reason one would have to hate the guy in the first place. Our country is being saved for now, but there's still much work to do. It won't be solved by Democrats, doomed for extinction in just a few short years given recent events.

Burt Bacharach, please do us all a favor: Ditch the politics. Please? Pretty please with sugar on it? It's not worth risking losing your fan base. You don't want that happening. Don't let the left 'make you over', to borrow from an old song. You've got too many magic moments to fill this empty place unless you know when to leave for San Jose. And anyone who had a heart would fight to save this country, not lose it.

And happy birthday, Burt.
