Dear Internet,
It was a dark and stormy night when I set out to find some information about living in Ontonagon (town/county). I was generally pleased with the results of my search, but then I came across a document filled with the most menacing of horrors, biting bugs!
Here are a few most notable phrases:
Ticks were mentioned as well, millions, billions, fifillions of ticks.
See: http://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_...rdb5112290.pdf
I don't plan to crawl through the woods, but I would like to have fairly extensive vegetable garden, process firewood outside, and work on home/land improvement projects without having to douse myself in a ton of chemicals.
I don't see mosquitoes as a problem because I do already own a bunch of Mosquito Magnets and they work well. I would expect them to work on UP Mosquitoes just the same even if I may need different attractant.
It would be a bummer to buy a large acre property just to not be able to do anything outside because the bugs make life miserable.
Somewhat related; what's the Ontonagon (town/county) ground water quality like? Can well water be consumed or does one have to haul potable water from somewhere?
Lastly, what's a practical commute distance from Ontonagon, especially during the Winter? For example, Google Maps shows that Ontonagon to Mass City is 20 miles, and it estimates a 27-minute commute, but that doesn't really mean anything if the road is all potholes or covered in 4 feet of snow. Thoughts?
Thanks in advance for any insight you can provide.
