The reading haul has picked up!!!

Posted 08-22-2021 at 12:16 PM by ladyvibrant

As of this writing, I have completed 64 books in 2021. I aim to surpass 100 books. So excited!!! Yet relieved that I ended my slump which lingered for the first half of 2021. I have occupied myself with some other tasks so that also disrupted my reading time. I keep in touch with people better. I am grateful for that because my loneliness has abated. Maybe in 2022, I'll surpass 200 books. That would be awesome!!!ok:

    Books

I love the picture, it looks like a wall in my bedroom!
I like that you are challenging yourself, I wish you the best of luck in succeeding at your goal.
Books can certainly be a friend when one is bored or lonely. Many of your books have cheerful or colorful covers and I often wonder what they are about. Would you be willing to participate a bit more in depth on the "What book are you reading?" thread? When you post I would love to hear a sentence or two about the topic of your chosen book and whether you think the book is enjoyable or informative, or maybe even boring. I think it's always fun to hear what someone else thinks of a book I might be unfamiliar with.

I just started a book called "The Reason: How I Discovered a Life Worth Living" by Lacey Sturm, former lead singer of the band Flyleaf. In it she writes the simple line: "Why do we read? Because, some say, we don't want to feel alone." (pg. 27). She goes on to make other points, but outside of the knowledge and learning part of it, I hadn't really thought of the act of reading books like that before.

We sign up for an internet forum so that we can share our interests with what we believe will be like-minded people; strangers take time out of their lives to do this. Although it is a discussion forum, and even though we read words in books, sometimes just posting a picture of a book cover is enough to let others know that we want to share what we're experiencing; that we are expressing ourselves in a way that works for us. Other members should feel grateful that they've done so. Some book people will "get it," some won't.

Best of luck on your goal of 100 books!

I am currently in a set of circumstances where I am the only person I know who loves to discuss books. I agree about the need for real-life human friends. For now, books are my friends. I appreciate the compliment.
