In the news today, the self-proclaimed "King of Pop" has finally dropped dead. After years of reigning at the top as everyone's favorite, it is with great regret that we pass on the news that Coca-Cola has been superseded as the #1 favorite for all the world's soda pop drinkers by none other than Pepsi. As with all good things, eventually it comes to an end. And so it was for the "King of Pop" whose last moments lay flat-lined with zero carbonation. Throughout the years, the original recipe that had made it so famous to begin with had undergone many drastic changes. So much, in fact, that people hardly recognized it any more.

Despite heated competition from its arch-rivals, the "King of Pop" always managed to be a staple of some of the greatest things about America. Perhaps the beginning of the end was the introduction of "Vanilla Coke" in which the makers decided to implement a hint of vanilla into the mix. This drastically changed both the texture and flavor of the self-proclaimed "King of Pop" and left fans everywhere somewhat shocked and dismayed at the clearly horrid intentional shape-shifting.

But, the "King of Pop" still managed to overcome and thrive in the face of the new black and white mixture that was clearly confusing to everyone. It wasn't long after that in which a series of allegations against the "King of Pop" later surfaced. Many claimed the “King of Pop” was bad for children. Some parents had even raised lawsuits in which the “King of Pop” was accused of doing severe damage to several children. Though "The King of Pop" was henceforth acquitted of these charges, the rumors and opinions of guilt still thrive on. Some parents have even been notably loath to let their children even think of trying to get near “The King of Pop.”

The days leading into the “King of Pop’s” final moments were pretty quiet. With almost recluse-like properties, all seemed quiet and no one seemed to even notice the existence of said cultural icon anymore. Finally, just last week, with the world collapsing around it, Coca-Cola finally caved in with their bubbly greatness merely nothing more than a distilled bit of watery liquid unrecognizable to anyone around it. So it is we must find a new "King of Pop" and who better to take that place than Pepsi?

In other news... Michael Jackson was found dead in his home last week at the age of 50.

I know it is your greatest wish to be a satirist. Keep trying. I have a very sadistical sense of humor so I am a good audience.
Your story was still not funny or ironical. The reference to MJ definitely put the nail in the coffin.
Now that is true satire! LOL

Be careful with how you criticize someone, yukiko. Once again, you've missed the bigger picture and the plainer point. Stop thinking in one-dimension and ask yourself why the title of this post might have been called "In Other News." Though the initial premise is plainly a light comedic attempt at satirizing Michael Jackson, the bigger picture is both to criticize those who deify certain people in society as Gods and also a criticism of the news media and their ever annoying venture at making huge news out of something small. One famous man dies and the news goes nuts. If fifty people die from a landslide in another country, hardly a word is mentioned. It's a terrible double standard that we place such an impetus and importance on one single entertainer's life but fail to cognitively recognize the hundreds of thousands of people who led far less glamorous lives but die every day because of landslides, malnutrition, disease, and warfare.

Are you catching my drift yet, yukiko? The world is a far bigger place with far more important things to worry about than the death of a single entertainer whom society outcast as a "Crazy Child Molestor" and nicknamed him "Wacko Jacko". But, now that he's dead, everyone acts as though they were always madly in love with him and we haven't heard the end of it.

I happen to be a fan of Michael Jackson's music and I am happy that we have so much of his genius on film.
As for his personal life, I think what he became is very sad, but many people who experience fame have to pay the price of that fame. Some can deal with it and some cannot. It is unfortunate that he did not have the character to stand up to his life. But that happens with so many people like him. We should be respectful of the genius and let the rest go to his grave with him. He will pay the price for his failures, just like we all will.
You are correct, people are dying everyday in the middle east on both sides of the street. We basically view it as just another news story and it doesn't bother us until it is our child or our husband/wife or our brother/sister or our neighbor..
As for criticism. I am not criticizing you, I am trying to encourage you. You have the gift, you just need to present it without anger. There is humor in satire, but it is usually based on tragedy. Don't feel for one minute that people will not get the message even if they laugh..

Yukiko... I am not presenting anything with anger. I don't know where you derive anger from in anything I've written except for a fictitious postulation in your mind. For those who personally know me and have read this (or my other blog posts) they know that what I write is often done with the best of intentions, with a smile on my face, and not an ounce of anger.

Yes, anger is an emotion I can use for inspiration in something I post but I'm more of a person who would rather make fun of it than get upset and angry over it.

Now, as was suggested to both of us, lighten up. It's a blog. I'm entitled to free speech (within certain boundaries), I'm entitled to an opinion, and I'm entitled to creatively act upon those entitlements whether it is to your chagrin or not. If you find what I write to be so offensive to your tastes - just don't read it.
