Happy 4th of July!

July 4, 2009, 10:30pm: Happy Birthday, USA … Happy 4th to everyone… Just returned from the firworks show over KailuaBay. Very nice show! Kinda accidentally ended up finding a great spot to watch & take some pics for the family back home. Ended up on the lava rocks between Huggo’s & the water. Got comfy & enjoyed the show. After the show I even got my first taste of the local shaved ice that I hear so much about. Well, kudos… Pineapple flavor was A1 & the ice itself was great.
Last night I went on the “black water” dive for the first time. Dive boat goes out about 1 ½ miles to water that is over 10K feet, well after dark. Tons of little creatures live in this deep water with no sunlight & come up to shallower water after dark to feed or play or whatever? These little fellows are bioluminescent (Man, that is a big word & I am not spell-checking it) – I think that means that they are clear bodies, like jelly fish & create their own light sources somehow from with their bodies. Anyhow, you drop in the water & shine your flashlight around to find these things & they put on a little neon type of light show. Look up pics on-line – it truly is amazing. I am glad I did this, but I think I will stick with the Mantas from know on.
I bought myself a moped too. I have been looking at a bunch of used ones, but finally went down & bought a new one (Kiser’s Motorcycles seems like some good guys). I feel like I am starting to fit in a bit. All of scuba (except tank) & snorkel gear even fit on real nice & I had no problem cruising all the way down to the small boat harbor.
I am now in the process of planning my backpacking trip over to Kauai. More details to come on that, when I know them.
Once again, Happy 4th & a huge thank you to all of those who have & continue to make our freedom possible!
