This started as my travel log. (We've been traveling the USA from Seattle, WA since Labor Day '08.) My husband has a great website showing the highlights and his commentaries on the places we've been and the things we've done. (View via my profile home page.)
I found that while discovering the country, I was also finding myself. I am learning what to keep, and what to drop -- or chisel away. I don't mind sharing; maybe you will learn something from my lessons, too.
Then came Bigun, my Cocker-Beagle, my newest guru. He's got his own category in the Blog, and an album on my profile.
You are welcome to what I have, good and bad, and leave messages as you like, but please be kind. I, too, am still "in training."

Insurance, referrals, doctors, and staff

My husband found a lump. Being "take charge" people, he immediately tried to make an appointment with a specialist under our insurance company's list of approved providers. There are 14 listed in Bangor, but no one would talk to him without a physician's post-exam referral and ultrasound test results.
Today we drove north to get both during a visit to a hospital emergency room, as recommended by one of the specialists we called. The doctor there examined him, but did NOT order the ultrasound, and now he has to go back AGAIN tomorrow, to see THEIR specialist, and let that doctor decide the ultrasound is needed.
I was livid at the inefficiency. I stormed to him -- poor guy; he's got all this to deal with, and then my acting out, besides.
Our insurance doesn't require referrals. The insurance company said: "You can do anything you want with your insurance." So why would today's doctor NOT order the ultrasound? Obviously my husband cannot answer that question, and I am not going to bother him about it, but is sure fumes me to think that he's getting the "run around" by people that are obviously not thinking about his needs.
Lord, give me patience, strength, and the ability to keep my mouth shut. Amen.

God bless you, 2goldens. 8)
Today's appointment went very well. That lump was NOT a tumor, but a cyst -- and didn't even require treatment.
Praise God.Posted 07-07-2009 at 06:30 PM by LookinForMayberry
