I Think I Can...I Know I Can!

Posted 09-06-2008 at 10:23 PM by bibit612
Well, two months into this camera, I came to the conclusion that with enough will power, I can...win the CD August Photography Contest! Maybe it does not mean anything to anyone really. Maybe I just got lucky! Or, I can tell myself that it really was a product of hard work, many hours of pouring over the manual, experimenting with editing, reading websites, asking questions and just trying, trying, trying. I like the hard work part. I like the repeated attempts at "perfection" that a craft demands, or I demand of myself. When I can say I did my best, I know that's about all I could do, my best. Do I crop it a bit more, a bit less, do I present it in landscape, or portrait? How does it "talk" to me? What does a photograph say? Do I want to jump into the frame and wish I were there? Is it too bright, too dark, too saturated, overexposed, and on and on until I just hit it right, by me. Just by me. And that should be enough. To be judged by a jury of your peers is a very humbling experience. To be acknowledged is a good feeling. But to begin this adventure thinking I think I can and come away knowing I can is the best reward of all.

I realy like your attitude about photography, bibit612. I wish I shared it. I rarely enter contests as, for me, my best is never good enough, or I keep thinking "Don't enter this one, because you might shoot a better one tomorrow." Sometimes I wish I could just relax and go for it!
