Bird in the house!!??

Posted 05-02-2009 at 12:00 PM by JoAnn5

The other day we noticed a pair of swallows flying and fluttering near our sliding glass doors that lead to the back porch. I figured they were working on building a nest above the door as we would see them there repeatedly, hovering and darting around, almost seeming to be looking in the door at us. After a couple of days, I went outside to check on their progress but saw no signs of nest building. I left the door open to the nice breeze and within a few seconds, one of the birds came right inside, flew around the den about 3 times then flew right out again. In about a minute the other one came in and did the same... 3 circles then out. That was the last day we saw them. I kinda miss them as they were fascinating to watch and i admired their hard work. I didn't do anything to bother them.
Is there a superstition that says a bird in the house is bad luck?

During nesting season is is common for birds to fly around windows. They are actually looking at the birds reflected in the window thinking they may be threats. I had an office once with floor to ceiling windows that had reflective film on them. The outside was like a mirror and the poor little birds would try to attack and end up breaking their necks on impact and dying.
It was very unusual for them to fly in and fly out of your house. Usually when they get in they panic. That must have been quite a sight.
