America: Obama will be a president, NOT Jesus Christ

I'm a proud black man. I think it is great that a person of color will probably be a president after all the prejudice my parents and grandparents endured in the Jim Crow South. I will not be voting for him however as i do not agree with him on most issues.
Here is my problem:
Black America is embracing him like when he is elected all of our problems will be over. Our schools in our communities will be fixed instantly after his inaugration. Our neighborhoods will be safer after he is elected instantly. Barack will make everything right with Black America after he is elected like he is God.
Folks, Barack Obama is not God and never will be. He does not have unlimited power. On 1/21/09 after he is elected our schools will still be behind other countries. Our major cities will still have hundreds of muders every year. Most Americans will still be in debt. A lot of deadbeat dads and moms (in the black community in particular.) No president can solve everything.
Do NOT look to government to solve your problems. Real "change" starts with you and your community. Want kids to achieve more? make them study. Want to make your neighborhood safer? Report shady activity.
Government was never made to solve your problems. If you wont do the work yourself, Obama will try to do it for you and you may not like the end result of his efforts.

I agree with you except that Obama will be a good President. Unfortunately, he has socialist views, and will ultimately increase taxes, thus squeezing what little disposable income middle America has into zero. Senator Obama voted 100% of the time for tax increases while in the Senate. Further, he will use the increase in taxes to make people more reliant on government for health care, education and subsidies. Real "change" means taking accountability like you said. Real "change" means helping small businesses grow by keeping their taxes low so they can create more jobs - not by taxing them 50% if they make over $250K per year.
I support John McCain for the above reasons, but commend you on your stance. You have great insight that I can only hope inspire those in our community.Posted 10-28-2008 at 05:49 PM by independent thinker
