Random Thoughts From Mauston, WI

Posted 06-17-2008 at 06:42 PM by Enelra32

It is beautiful out today after all the storms we had recently.

Here in Mauston we were lucky. The water crested just at the road and into Riverside park a little ways. As for some of the towns around us, like Reedsburg, where my sister and an aunt and uncle live, Elroy, where a great aunt and some friends live, Union Center, where a cousin lives, Hillsboro, where my dentist is, Lake Delton, just to the south of us, Baraboo where my son and his family live, and oh so many other small towns, they were not so lucky!

I lived in Elroy back about 19 yrs ago when it flooded last time. I was in 5th or 6th grade at the time. We were trapped up on the hill we lived on for 3 days.

I went to Elroy the other day and the water is down but it looks like the water got to about the same hieght it did back then.

My son is in an upstairs apt. and took pictures of cars stuck in front of the building because people think they can go through deep water on the roads and he and his family are fine.

My aunt and uncles basement was full and they were trapped in their house for days, but I guess the water has pretty much receded there in Reedsburg too now.

Interstate I90/94 was shut down for days and my uncle was trapped in Madison V.A. hospital for 3 days longer than he was supposed to be there, and missed Fathers Day with his family.

My sister and her family live in a part of Reedsburg that didn't flood.

I haven't heard how my cousin fared over in Union Center. I hope they are ok.

Now that the water is going down. The mud and muck is left. The mess is horrible. The clean-up seems endless. I pray all those who were affected, especially the ones who lost their homes and belongings/and or family members, find comfort, peace, the help and things they need without too much more suffering.

As for Lake Deltons mess... I have very mixed emotions... they knew they couldn't get flood insurance so why build there!? The city of Lake Delton needs new representatives that know what they're doing. Lake Delton needs to quit being so greedy for money and take the peoples lives and lively hoods into consideration instead!

Well, that's all for today. Have a good one everyone and don't wash away...

So much devastation..So many lives changed..some forever..I pray for those folks and their families and would like to do more..They will need so much help and supplies for the cleanup, and household articles and clothing for a new start..

    With you in spirit...

I've been through a major flood disaster (Johnstown, PA Flood of '77) and know what you and your family and neighbors are going through. Know my prayers are with all the victims of the mid-west flooding.
