This started as my travel log. (We've been traveling the USA from Seattle, WA since Labor Day '08.) My husband has a great website showing the highlights and his commentaries on the places we've been and the things we've done. (View via my profile home page.)
I found that while discovering the country, I was also finding myself. I am learning what to keep, and what to drop -- or chisel away. I don't mind sharing; maybe you will learn something from my lessons, too.
Then came Bigun, my Cocker-Beagle, my newest guru. He's got his own category in the Blog, and an album on my profile.
You are welcome to what I have, good and bad, and leave messages as you like, but please be kind. I, too, am still "in training."

We LOVED Duluth. Great old buildings, beautiful bike/walking trails, and Lake Superior -- in addition to the St. Louis River. It's a dream come true, but baby it's COLD!
I never did get to put my kayak in the water. It's a recreational kayak, and would've been unsafe with the wind and waves we saw on Superior. (Yes, I could've paddled the river, or the bay, but I wanted to put into the Lake.) Too bad for me. Next time.
Every town we visit (with a clear desire to see if it is a "Mayberry" town), we check out the main library, the public transit, the residential and business district streets (for pedestrian-friendliness), and the food markets. Those are our main staples. If those pass, we look at the theater and performance venues, bookstores, and secondary schools available. Duluth passed on all fronts.
They also have friendly, caring, knowledgeable veterinary and medical clinics.
So, Duluth goes on the list, but the climate Might put it lower on the list than others, depending on what the others end up being. Too soon to say -- we've still got eleven more months to go!

For many years we spent several weeks each winter at our vacation home just north of Duluth/Superior. The area is beautiful in the spring and summer, but I found fall and winter cold and unpleasant. Not enough sunshine for me....Posted 10-03-2009 at 06:44 PM by leorah
