I found that while discovering the country, I was also finding myself. I am learning what to keep, and what to drop -- or chisel away. I don't mind sharing; maybe you will learn something from my lessons, too.
Then came Bigun, my Cocker-Beagle, my newest guru. He's got his own category in the Blog, and an album on my profile.

Fiesty and Fearless at Play

Bigun has been with us now for six weeks as of tomorrow afternoon. His latest weigh in has him at 15 lbs, and he's learned most of the commands for a well-mannered pup: sit, wait, bring, drop it, etc. He loves his walks: usually two miles, twice a day, when the location we are in allows it. He isn't bothered by the frequent travel, nor the change in locations. Traffic noises do not faze him, and he walks over any surface. I am considering agility training, later.
He's brought joy to DH and me in Great measure, but Ritz has yet to find him amusing. It's amazing how he tries and tries to engage her in play.
The RV is 38' long, with the living, dining, kitchen and driving areas in about 12' x 15' of that -- with the slide out. The dining table, desk, two recliners, and kitchen take probably half the floor space. Still, Bigun finds room around us to charge up to Ritz, stand on his feet, extend his "hands" as high as he can, and then pounce down to submit to her sniffing.
Once he's sure she's had a chance to give him a good review, he'll jump up, box her with a quick rabbit punch, and then run away as far as he can, run back, and bark, and run off again.
This is her queue to chase, but she's eleven and stiff and stands there looking at him like a distasteful object. When he comes near again, she usually snarls, snaps, and tries to retreat.
He's learned her favorite places, and corrals her from them with his darting, punching, and barking. Never does HE snarl nor nip. I can see he means only to play, but that's not her view.
I let it go on until the pitch of her snarling gets too fevered, and then remind him of the "leave it" command. Lately, he's become quick to comply, and we either play tug on a toy, or fetch, or go for another long walk.
Ritz doesn't know what she's missing.
