Can't believe summer's soon over, fall is here before we know it, and the Holiday season is just going to sneak up on us!

How time flies! Planning ahead is so essential in this fast-spinning world we live in! I say planning and spreading out the budget, makes good money-saving sense (and cents) nowadays.

I told myself year after year that I'm going to gradually buy, throughout the year, gifts off my Christmas list of people I give gifts to. That way I don't end up being broke at the beginning of the year of all time! January, is when my pocket has that big hole and paying off credits doesn't make a good start of the year I tell you. But I'm just on panic mode again now thinking that next month is the start of the -ber months already!

Well, I'm just writing a short post to remind parents about the tax-free back-to-school week end shopping. From what I gathered, it's going to be the week end of the 21st through the 23rd of this month. I don't usually go to this tax-free week-end shopping because the huge crowd just makes me feel dizzy, but these are the days when every penny saved can surely help stretch the budget, especially to me who has 4 kids to buy for!

If you're looking to save for your back-to-school purchases like me, this tax-free week-end may be worth a try!

Everything Real Estate in Houston & Surrounding Areas

Posted 06-06-2009 at 02:32 PM by psampang

Just starting to blog about real estate happenings, events, milestones in Houston as I see & experience them. Related contributions, comments & questions are welcome.

I was at a closing last week & was excited by the number of transactions that the Title Company was handling. Imagine a closing schedule of 6:30 pm & I was told there were others after us. The office was still fully staffed at 7pm so I commented to the closer that business looks good & she said yes, in fact, they have 41 closings the following day. Being that it was the end of the month, and she said, it's most builders quarter-end, too. Still it tells me that somehow, the incentives that builders give, the low rates, the $8,000. tax credit are moving buyers to purchase at this time, even in the midst of uncertain economics. Like two of my recent buyer clients for one, took advantage of the $8K tax credit while it's still good till end of November this year.

I think it's a good thing as we know real estate is one of the prime movers of our economy. I can only hope that it steadily gears up.

I was at the City of Houston Homebuyers's Assistance Seminar this Tuesday & I got more excited as they are stepping up in creating awareness & willingness to cooperate with professionals in the industry to distribute the downpayment assistance monies available to those who qualify. Gives a lot of hope to everyone-professionals and consumers alike.

So far, things are looking good & hope it continue to do so.

We visited with some friends from McAllen Texas over the week-end. I was pleasantly surprised at the bustle of activities, shopping & dining, over there. I was imagining a small town with mom & pop shops but boy was I wrong. Not only were there plenty of Walmart, Target & other famous retailers, there were even more specialty shops & restaurants, there were a lot of shoppers & diners, too. It was past 10 in the evening and people are still out & about. Lots of consumer activities, good for the economy. Looks to me like they're doing ok over there. Apparently, our friend who lives there said that some of them are from Mexico who do their shopping there.

We headed next to South Padre. Lots of beach house condos for sale. Being that it's out of my local market experience, can't comment much about that. Over all, I still see people going out and enjoying a vacation. I think that's a good thing, we may be skimping a little here & there, but we all still need some rest & relaxation.
