Welcome To Case's Column

Since this will be my first venture into the mysterious world of blogging, let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings "Case's Column". I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, I'll set aside a place here for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Here you are. My very first blog page. Come on in and share in the experience. I'm interested in seeing where this is all going. And thanks in advance for dropping by!

Regards,

More Scattershooting / That Holiday Spirit Is Back

Here we go with more scattershooting for the masses and with the masses. I hope you've got a little time to "spin the bottle" with the Casester, so let's gather around that cozy computer campfire and we'll get this little hoedown going. Be sure to bring some extra logs.

It's almost here. Thanksgiving. Turkey at the table with all the trimmings. Families gathering together. The Macy's annual parade. The Cowboys (Okay, that's for you football fans). It's a great time because of the ambience and the celebration that accompanies the tradition. Soft rock radio stations begin playing their endless stream of Christmas music until we finish opening the presents. Still, it's a happy time for people to cherish the togetherness of unity and sharing time with others. I cannot wait! May you take the time to spend your holiday with someone you really care about. And may I say in advance, "Happy Holidays!"

Hard to believe, but another holiday is around the corner. Veterans Day is November 11. It's amazing that we don't think about that one more often. We should.

Let's continue to remember our troops.

The Yankees have won yet another World Series, this latest one against Philadelphia. (Y-A-A-A-A-A-W-W-W-N) Oh, well. Back to the drawing board. I'm looking forward to when the Astros bust Florida for Spring Training in February.

By the way, TV ratings for the World Series are up this year and the highest since 2004. Here's the link with more:

See which celebrities share your birthday this month in this:

NOVEMBER FAMOUS BIRTHDAYS

Wow! Tara Reid and Demi Moore with birthdays this month. How cool is that?

Last month saw the least amount of sunshine in the state of Texas in the last several years. Today (November 3), we have abundant sunshine and not a cloud in the sky. The last thing Dallas needs is more rain, as our creeks and rivers need desperately to recede. If anyone needs more rain, it is the Austin area. I mentioned Lake Travis (near Austin) in a previous blog. There's been some improvement. That great lake is now twenty-one feet below normal.

I'm sure, by now, you've heard of the Smashburger franchise that's sweeping portions of America. That's right, another burger chain. Here's a story of the first Smashburger to open in my neck of the woods:

And it's time for the Word of the Day, and that word is stop. Sometimes, we just need to stop and smell the roses, to just appreciate the majesty and beauty of life. Or stop for a great latte at a coffee place for a nice caffeine kick. Or stop for a good burger at........ well, I'll think about it. In the meantime, I will stop typing now.

And there you are.

Yankees are up 3 games to 2 now. The Phils won last night in a thriller.

If the Cardinals aren't in it, then nothing else matters.

I also love it when somebody talks holidays. Glad you're writing about them. What do you plan to do for your Thanksgiving dinner, case? Will you stay in town?

the soft rock stations here have also just begun their Christmas music which basically consists of 12 songs. They start it earlier and earlier every year. I've never heard of this Smashburger, sounds pretty smashing

Yeah, Canes, but I'll live with it. And next year, it starts in August.

By the way, I can get soft rock on the subchannels of these stations via the Internet, so if I'm not in the car, I can still tune in when I'm not in the mood for Jingle Bells.

Mal, I plan to be at my mom's for Thanksgiving dinner. It's in town, and it's not far away. I'll probably invite a friend or two, and she might invite one or two, so it should be a good day.
