Visit to camden, nj-columbus day weekend

Posted 10-19-2008 at 09:33 AM by MS COLON

I took a trip through camden, nj. Columbus day weekend this was my first visit there. I was shocked, i could not believe anyone lives in this great country (the united states) in such horrific conditions.now i'm no starnger to poverty (i know life on the poor side) but this beyond belief.trash everywhere, condemed buildings, a liquor store on every corner, nothing nutritional in the environment to eat (is this a set up) is it expected that anyone could thrive under these conditions.take any politician and they wouldn't want to spend one night of there life there. So why is anyone living there? I could understand why anyone brought up in this environment would feel hopeless and think this is how life is..if this is all you saw and you are unable to see the rest of the world, your uneducated and etc... Etc...that alone damages everything. Also, putting more police on the streets controls...what????? Try jobs, skill centers, prevention on teenage pregnancy. Lets give these people hope and help financial help. No government checks and foodstamps which everyone knows thats to keep you struggling..move them from this ghost town and for those of you who live a better life and would say:"these people don't want to leave, the don't want to change for the better" well if you were programmed to believe this is ok then you would too. I'm sure they don't want to leave their quiet, clean subburban communities...for a life in camden.the people of camden are survivors. They just need someone who really wants to make change do so...how is it here in the united states this wealthy country, we have people who live in these conditions.politicans!!!!! Get the money to the city before you put your children and yourselves in designer clothes and private schools.

My dad had a Rowhome on Browing St. and another a few blocks down he was a LandLord, and after a few years of Hell he sold both row homes, and never looked back.
