Preventing another crisis

Ok, by now most of you may know about the shortage of fuel in most of the SouthEast. However, things are starting to turn back to normal but there is still another week or so before every pump can deliver gas again.
I've heard stories from people who remembered the shortages of the early 70's, and some say this was worse than 35 years ago. They say that rationing helped to ease the pain a little. And I think thats something we should have done.
A couple of examples of how selfish some people were during this time; I drove by a station with a line tuesday afternoon and saw someone filling up a boat, I heard people got into fist-fights, cutting the lines, and filling up several gas cans as well as their car. I filled up Monday as I had very little left in my tank and noticed a police officer standing in the line, he was checking people's fuel odomoters to see if they really needed it, at least 6 cars in front of me were sent home.
I'm going to get to the point here, we need to plan ahead and take this as a lesson learned, because something like this could happen again in the near future. We need to tell ourselves and others that panicking is not the right way to go.
Thats all I got for this segment.

That was ridiculous. Rationing might have cut off the hoarding and panic, but then they'd cry about how they can't fill up their generators and their 300 gas cans and be ready for the next work day and the apocalypse at the same time.
There was a topic on the Charlotte forum where a lot of people were singing the I-I-I-me-me-me song and how it was their right to fill every gas can and lawnmower they had, everyone else be damned.Posted 11-01-2008 at 11:04 PM by jfre81

I'm trying to think back, I can slightly remember that in New York, we were only allowed to buy gas by the even or odd number on a specific day of week by our license plate? Someone correct me please.Posted 11-02-2008 at 03:57 AM by 2goldens
